Revolutionizing Cancer Research with Powerful Data Visualization

challenge

Reduce the Number of Tests Required for Effective Treatment Plans

A world renowned research hospital with one of the largest laboratory testing facilities in the country needed to redesign their genetic research dashboard to support oncologists and hematologists in identifying key factors correlating to certain cancer types. Cancer patients go through a number of tests, with each one leading to more time-consuming processes for both patients and our client, resulting in higher costs and anxiety for patients. Our client’s goal was to reduce the number of tests and panels needed to identify a timely and effective treatment plan for each patient.

solution

User Friendly, Optimized Dashboard

Our expert data visualization team collaborated closely with hematologists and oncologists to design a next-generation dashboard tailored to their needs. Key steps included:

  • Data Modeling for Precision: We worked with medical leads to create a robust data model that correlated panel test results with cancer types, enabling faster pattern recognition and insights.
  • Automated Updates and Scalability: The new data structure allowed for seamless ingestion of new datasets and automated updates, ensuring the dashboard stays current without manual intervention.
  • Hematology-Focused Features: A dedicated hematology section was added, designed to maximize engagement and usability, ensuring specialists could quickly access relevant data.
  • Best Practices for Sustainability: We provided hands-on Tableau training and data modeling governance empowering the hospital’s team to independently maintain and evolve the solution over time.

results

More Informed Decision-Making in Oncology and Hematology

The project yielded significant results for our client including:

  • Enhanced Decision-Making Tools: A more comprehensive and user-friendly dashboard for oncologists and hematologists, enhancing their ability to identify key factors in cancer research
  • Sustainable Innovation: Ensuring our client could effectively update and maintain the dashboard, promoting long-term sustainability
  • Improved Research Outcomes: Enhanced data visualization and engagement for end-users, potentially improving the speed and accuracy of cancer research insights which will result in fewer tests and quicker treatment plan identification

Our partnership empowered our client to leverage their innovative research data more effectively, potentially accelerating cancer research and improving patient outcomes through more informed decision-making in oncology and hematology.
